Directional Drilling Operator

The Role

Directional Drilling Operator is responsible for all aspects of the Drilling process, starting with general work and support for the rig, then moving on to the drilling tracker and rig operation.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply general workplace health, safety and welfare requirements when undertaking tunnelling activities
  • Work safely around the rig, follow safe systems of work and react appropriately in an emergency.
  • Interpret and work to specifications, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health [COSHH]assessments, construction information and briefings
  • Comply with environmentally responsible work practices and contribute to sustainable practices in Drilling operations
  • Follow the technical requirements, at an operational level, associated with the different Drilling processes and use of drilling fluids.
  • Apply safe working techniques for moving and handling materials, resources and components by mechanically assisted or manual means
  • Offload and load vehicles used in the Drilling environment, following RAMS set out for this work.
  • Operate powered units, tools, machinery and equipment specific to drilling operations (e.g. pumps, generators, compressors, agitators, fluid equipment)
  • Work individually and as part of a team to install and remove drilling equipment.
  • Install and support the installation of back-up service systems fordrilling fluid, pressurisation, communication, water supply, walkways and materials handling.

  • A CSCS card for directional drilling work is essential.
    Driving license-HGV if possible, but not essential.
