Civil Project Engineer

The Role:

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing the mandate and preparing a scope, methodology, programme, and resource estimate for implementing the design stage of the project and design support during construction.

In addition, you’ll provide technical input and designs which are innovative and deliver value for money whilst acting as a proactive problem-solver by applying engineering principles.

Working closely with the Project Manager and the project team, you will ensure that project-related activities are planned and executed to meet the project requirements in a safe and cost-effective manner.

You will also contribute to customer satisfaction and ensure quality is always achieved.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Supporting the Project Management team in the delivery of Water Recycling projects.
  • Production of functional specifications, contractor selection and ensuring that all supporting scope is delivered on time.
  • Provide data to the project Commercial manager / QS concerning variation orders and site instructions.
  • Coordination of multi-disciplinary design produced by the core design team, external partners, and the supply chain
  • Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design by eliminating hazards and reducing risks during design whilst complying with Alliance CDM procedures.
  • Manage suppliers of engineering services across all technical disciplines.
  • Liaise with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project.
  • Liaise with clients and their representatives (architects, engineers, and surveyors), including attending regular meetings to keep them informed of progress.
  • Developing and reviewing tender documents, both for consultants and construction works.
  • Understanding project risks and coordinating mitigation activities.
  • Carrying out Technical Assurance checks and audits of contractor activities and outputs through the detailed design and construction phases of projects.
  • Assisting in the resolution of engineering issues arising through project delivery and ensuring quality control.
  • Manage multiple engineering aspects of projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet technical and quality standards.
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders, including clients, architects, and contractors, to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Developing and overseeing project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supporting the project team in preparing detailed interface engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Working with the project team by assigning in tasks and providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Understanding project risks and co-ordinating the mitigation activities ensuring compliance with safety regulations throughout the project.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines, such as mechanical and civil engineers, to ensure integrated and coordinated project designs.
  • Participating in site visits and inspections to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure quality control.
  • Troubleshooting with the project team in resolving civil-related issues that may arise during project execution.
  • Ensuring that projects adhere to codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Managing project documentation, including technical reports, change orders, and project records.
  • Providing technical support to clients and addressing their inquiries and concerns.
  • Preparing and delivering project progress reports and presentations to clients and project stakeholders

  • Contracts Managers/QS, Procurement manager, Planner, Project Managers, Engineering Team Leads.
  • Site Agents and Site team.
  • Client’s site, commissioning & engineering & technical assurance teams.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate is likely to meet all the following criteria:

  •  Excellent communication skills harnessing the ability to effectively work with our Barhale MEICA team, 3rd parties and Barhale MEICA & Civil clients.
  • A team player with the ability to coordinate project-related activities with clients’ consultants and 3rd
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Methodical approach with a clear focus on client, customer, and quality.
  • Strong leadership qualities and a natural problem solver.
  • Ability to work well within a team as well as individually.
  • Able to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines.
  • Able to work in a busy environment under pressure.
  • Possess a “can do” attitude and can provide support to other members of the team as required.
  • Methodical, and organised, with excellent attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in an Engineering related subject, ideally in the field of Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, Manufacturing or Civil engineering.
  • SMSTS or NEBOSH qualified.
  • Relevant CSCS Card (Either Experienced Technical Supervisor, Supervisory, Professionally Qualified Person, or Manager).
  • Three years + of experience in working at the Senior Engineer level or higher with more than three direct reports.
  • Familiar with programme management and maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally at all levels.
  • Proficient with IT specifically full Office 365 suite.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation regarding safe work practise.
  • SSSTS / SMSTS.
  • CSCS card.
  • 1st Aid trained.
  • Significant industrial MEICA, Civil or Engineering background.
  • Understanding the importance of promoting a safety culture on site.

Desirable Requirements:

  • WIMES Standards familiarisation.
  • Experience working within the utilities industry, especially Water & Wastewater.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Strong programme and schedule management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Water & Wastewater Industry background.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office package.
  • Commercial and contract experience.
  • Understanding of power project economics.
  • Knowledge of MF1, NEC, IChemE or similar model contracts.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene card (desirable).
