Here within the @one Alliance, we are a collaborative organisation made up of our eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO) and our extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.  

We are gearing up for our most exciting and challenging Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, this will see us deliver a programme of work larger than we’ve ever delivered before. We’ll be embarking on a new kind of project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team we're seeking a Civil Engineer to help deliver a range of Water Non-Infrastructure (WNI) projects.

What you will be doing as our new Civil Engineer WNI?

You’ll create and develop value-driven civil designs that achieve our capital investment programme outcomes and deliver value. Under the direction of the project Technical Manager, you'll deliver a range of Water Non-Infrastructure projects associated with potable water assets and within the bounds of a water treatment works or storage site

Responsibilities:

  • Production of civil designs, calculations and specifications for water-sector assets, design schedule and speciy pipes, including ductile iron, steelwork and plastic.
  • Working within multi-discipline design teams to produce designs which are on time, within budget and meet the required standards, liaising with stakeholders including Operations, contractors, and suppliers along the way. 
  • Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design by eliminating hazards and reducing risks during design whilst complying with Alliance CDM procedures. 
  • Progress projects from the feasibility stage through detailed design to construction. 
  • Undertake site visits to assess the current condition of our assets for feasibility studies, and reports and provide survey data for integration of the asset into our design solution.   
  • Provide support to update existing, and increase the number of, Standard Products that are used within our design solutions on a repeatable basis. 
  • Identify and promote opportunities to meet the project's digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives. 

A little bit about your skills, experience, and behaviours….

To join us on the team, ideally, you’ll hold a BEng or MEng/MSc Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, working towards attaining Chartered Engineer status. You'll have a good knowledge and experience of undertaking structural calculations for various concrete structures, and demonstrable experience in undertaking the design of various civil engineering structures within the Water industry, and experience with relevant engineering design software packages. You will be confident in the utilisation of British Standards and Eurocodes and can interpret ground investigation reports to enable you to design the correct solution. 

You’ll be accustomed to communicating with a range of people as you collaborate to meet and exceed, stakeholder expectations. Your strong reporting writing skills and data analysis capabilities will allow you to understand our challenges and enthusiastically suggest enhanced ways of working.
