(Apprentice) Quantity Surveyor

The Role

Anglian Water is the largest water company in the UK, a complex and exciting organisation delivering the best possible service to 6 million customers. The Anglian Water Alliances support the business with a whole range of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects to upgrade the Anglian Water assets.

As a Quantity surveying apprentice, you’ll gain exposure to various elements of the commercial end-to-end process, consisting of the controlling and managing of costs on construction projects, working with a whole range of people within the business to make sure that everyone works to quality standards and helps keep the project on track. You will liaise with the client, prepare tenders and contracts, work with subcontractors, valuing completed works, managing budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of appropriate cost collection templates covering construction cost elements and ensure that this data is collected in a timely and effective manner
  • Conduct quality assurance of data submitted by delivery partners, ensure total project costs align with SAP, cost breakdown align with the delivery plans, compare submitted unit costs against current cost models and resolve queries with delivery partners
  • Conduct random audits on data validity
  • Conduct a monthly report of data capture status and liaise with delivery partners for the provision of quality data
  • Support teams analysing cost data that has been received to convert into cost models to predict the cost of future similar investments of the same asset type, for instance, pipes or pumps
  • Learning about how estimates are built up and completing quality checks of other people’s scope estimates, ensuring they have applied the cost and carbon emissions models correctly to the solution scope proposed, within the agreed level of service.
  • Ensuring Operational and OPEX costs have been assessed according to the principles set up
  • Conduct cost analysis for ad hoc estimation required by the business
  • Run and analyse reports to assess cost model usage and impact
  • Conduct audits to ensure the integrity of data across interfaces (SAP, A+, C55)
  • Provide support in the internal benchmarking activities

About you

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent 4 in Maths and English (Grade A-C/9-4) essential
  • Other UCAS Tariff points A levels, BTEC or Level 3s (Grade 112 points /BBC/ DMM) essential
  • Other Work experience rather than UCAS points, desirable
  • Strong IT Skills
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational and communicational skills

Desirable

  • Educated to A Level qualification or equivalent
  • Able to analyse data and produce reports
  • Knowledge and experience of a construction/commercial environment
  • Knowledge and experience of assurance/audit functions
