Lifting Supervisor

The Role

To supervise and coordinate lifting operations on site, ensuring all lifts are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved lift plans, risk assessments, method statements, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, understand and ensure that all relevant lift plans, risk assessments, method statements, and permits are in place before lifting operations commence
  • Carry out pre-lift briefings and toolbox talks to communicate lift plans, hazards, control measures, and emergency arrangements
  • Supervise lifting activities to ensure they are carried out safely and in accordance with legislation, industry standards, and company procedures
  • Ensure all personnel involved in lifting operations understand their roles and responsibilities
  • Verify that cranes, lifting accessories, and equipment have been inspected, certified, and are fit for use
  • Coordinate and direct crane operators, slinger/signallers, and lifting teams during lifting operations
  • Ensure exclusion zones and safe systems of work are established and maintained throughout lifting activities
  • Monitor weather conditions and other site factors that may affect lifting operations and stop work where safety may be compromised
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and organised work area around lifting operations
  • Communicate effectively with site management, crane operators, and lifting teams regarding operational requirements and safety concerns
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and lifting-related issues to site management
  • Support the investigation of incidents and contribute to the implementation of corrective actions and lessons learned
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER, BS 7121, company standards, and client requirements
  • Attend and, where required, lead site briefings, safety forums, and toolbox talk
